Blossoming Newborns

A special series for each postnatal trimester.  Each class addresses the unique needs of the participants.  In depth check ins and resource sharing, practice time for new skills and soothing techniques and resource referrals.  This fun, casual and very baby and mom friendly class is perfect to support you as you navigate motherhood, your changing relationships and growing instincts. 

Topics:  Each class addresses the unique needs of the participants and usually range from the practical like sleep strategies, feeding solutions, baby and parent development, infant massage, baby signs, making baby food to the more thoughtful like understanding your birth and early parenting experience, observing how your relationships with friends, family and your partner have changed, building a filter for all the information and advice that comes your way as a parent.

Class Flow: Classes consist of a check-in for each participant with questions of the day followed by resource sharing and skill building related to the topic of the day.

Mothering Sons Minimize

Join Birth Roots' Community Supported Parenting workshop called Mothering Sons.

Meets monthly for 9 sessions on the first Monday of the month from October through June for a facilitated dialogue on 9 topics relevant to being a female parent to a male child ages 1 through 5.  Co-Facilitated by Leah Deragon and Sarah MacLaughlin.

  • October: introduction
  • November: stereotypes & other sources of identity
  • December: your extended families' influence or attitudes towards your son or your parenting of him
  • January: toys, TV, electronics, media & the influence of older boys
  • February: the art of co-parenting, what your son might be learning about communication, problem-solving, division of labor, expressing emotions, power, etc from the immediate adult role models
  • March: uncomfortable topics related to sexuality/anatomy & our sons...
  • April: showing anger: when, where, how
  • May: boys' play: rough housing, making messes, getting hurt & competition
  • June: letting them grow up, how much independence, how soon & grown men as sons, refusing to lose them

Mothering Daughters Minimize

Join Birth Roots' Community Supported Parenting workshop called Mothering Daughters.

Meets monthly for 9 sessions on the first Monday of the month from October through June for a facilitated dialogue on 9 topics relevant to being a female parent to a female child ages 1 through 5.  Co-Facilitated by Emily Murray and Jen Fisher. 
{Prerequisite:  Previous Birth Roots involvement.}

Topics

  • October: Introductions and Gender Stereotypes & Other Sources of Gendered Identity
  • November: Influences and Attidudes from outside the bubble:  your extended families' influence or attitudes toward your daughter, specifically your parenting of her (too much girlness, not enough girlness, etc)
  • December: Girls Play:  dolls, pink, princesses, house, drama, cattiness, bossiness, playing coy, tomboys, giving science and math interests a fair shot...
  • January: Gendered Co-parenting:  what your daughter might be learning about communication, problem-solving, division of labor, expressing emotions, power, etc from her immediate adult role models
  • February:  Your Daughter’s Body – body image, body parts, relationship with food, our relationships with our bodies.  Reacting to repetetive comments "you’re so pretty"  "I love your outfit”
  • March: Showing Anger and Strong Emotions, theirs and ours: when, where, how...
  • April: Loss of Innocence: the influence of older girls, early sexualization in the media and toys...
  • May-  "The Good Girl" and other limiting labels:  where do our daughters see examples of boldness, self-promotion, pride, guts, assertiveness, sassiness, spunk, risk-taking..., how do we and immediate role models present and react to examples of these traits?
  • June-  Letting Them Grow Up: how much independence and how soon, encouraging healthy relationships (male and female), women as daughters: maintaining a connection and refusing to lose them

Singing Hands (0-3 years)

Birth Roots welcomes Chandra Oppenheim and Deliah Poupore of Singing Hands as they present this 8 week series.  This popular class brings together original music played on the guitar, creative play and american sign language for kids.   Enhance your communication and connection with your 0-3 year old.
